If you want to make more money as an affiliate, you must presell.
Before we start, let’s talk about what preselling actually is. Well, it is an art. And it’s also a science. It’s a process of taking your reader and getting them ready to buy. Then when they’re ready, refer them to the product website so they can buy it. And if it’s done properly, the process is completely sub-conscious.
Basically, you give them some content. And give them a link to the product you’re preselling. We’ll get into how to do it correctly in a minute. First, it’s important to understand why we do it. Just a few of the reasons you want to presell.
- It builds trust – And gaining the trust of your readers helps them want to click your links. Which obviously means you’ll make more sales.
- It takes your reader out of defense mode – When you’re not hyping or pitching a product, your reader lets their guard down. And in turn they read to understand what you’re saying. So your content get absorbed.
- It creates buying readiness – Now they trust you and feel open to your message. And in turn, they’re open to other messages, as well. This includes the sales website you send them to! Being open to a sales message is what it means being in a buying mood.
- It increases your sales – Now your reader arrives at the sales page in a buying mood. Open to the sales message and feeling safe. This dramatically boosts your sales rate!
- It increases customer satisfaction – Your referral now feels like they decided to buy. Versus being pitched or convinced. And this makes them feel better about the product they purchased.
- Preselling increases your bottom line – Happy customers ask for refunds much less often. Less refunds means more affiliate money stays in your pocket.
Obviously, it’s important to presell. You earn more commissions. And increase your customer satisfaction. Everybody wins!
OK, so how do you do it?
OK, now you understand why it’s so important. And hopefully you’re convinced you need to start doing it. You’re ready to learn how to do it properly. Remember, there are two components – art and science.
The art of preselling
The first step is in getting your readers to trust you and open up. Honestly, the only way to do this is to provide real value in you content. But you can’t give them so much that they think they have everything they could need, and that’s what makes it an art. That is, they have to be wanting more when you refer them to the product sales page for the product you’re trying to sell. And because you’ve gained trust, they’re more receptive to the sales message and more likely to buy.
Part 2 – the Science
You also have to include some very specific things.
First of all, it’s important HOW you present your information. You need to know where you’re going before you begin. Your goal is to sell the product you’re promoting. You use the information to do this in one of two ways. First, you can provide useful but incomplete information. The other method is to explain all the details and expose how difficult it is to do what you’re explaining. Whichever method, you send them to a product website that solves the problem you just created.
But you can’t link to your affiliate link. You have directly to the home page of the product. When you do this, you’re click-throughs go way up. But how will you earn affiliate commissions if you don’t use your affiliate link? This is all part of the science of preselling. You use the “covert cookie” strategy.
The next trick is to hyperlink specific words and phrases inside the content of the article you’re providing. It’s habitual to click on words and phrases that are hyperlinked. And if the words you hyperlink relate, your reader will naturally click them for more information.
Using this system, you’re virtually guaranteed to increase your affiliate business success.
OK, here’s the not-so-good news:
It’s extremely difficult to do this correctly. Let’s look at the skills required to pull it off: Great content. The entire process depends on your being able to provide useful information to your readers. This means you have to be able to write well, and have enough knowledge to be useful. Preselling skills. Yes, you must providing useful content. And you have to make the content accessible in order to provide value. While at the same time making them want more. The other approach is to reveal a self-evident problem through the information.
Picking products. You also need to determine what products you’ll be preselling. If you can manage to get the article written well. Your efforts are completely wasted if you don’t pick a winning product.
Technical skills. And finally, you need the technical know-how to embed your image tag and make sure you get credit for the sale. This is pretty easy – you just make a 1 pixel X 1 pixel image with no border and make the “source” of the image your affiliate link. (But if you mess it up, your referrals won’t be tracked.)
Wrapping it up:
Now you know what it takes to be a Presell Pro. Using these techniques will increase your affiliate sales by 500% or more! The important thing is to use these techniques for everything you promote as an affiliate. Please don’t be lazy. Make the extra effort required to propel your affiliate business to the next level.
